A planning snafu means a block of luxury apartments will not now be built – but students will get new accommodation.
Authorities in Winterthur gave the go ahead more than ten years ago to a 60-metre-high apartment building. However, when construction was underway, somebody spotted that it was too close to the nearby Hegmatten Airfield and a 60-metre-high building would block the approach path.
It means it can’t be more than 40 metres high.
Now, what was supposed to be a luxury development, will be turned into student accommodation.
The landowner, the Swiss Life insurance company, is not commenting on how much money it may have lost on the project.
