A new survey by recruitment firm Robert Walters shows more than half of Swiss professionals feel stressed about going back to work after their summer break – with 29% “very anxious.”
The number one culprit? A stuffed inbox, followed by fears of falling behind.
Two-thirds admit to checking work emails while on holiday to avoid post-break chaos, and a whopping 71% sometimes even delay taking holidays due to guilt or workload.
While a collective summer shutdown might ease the pressure, only 10% are keen – most prefer to choose their own dates.
Experts say the fix is cultural: better handovers, respecting out-of-office replies, and ditching the guilt. After all, holidays should recharge you… not leave you more frazzled than when you left.
