Preparations for autoroute jet landing

The air force is preparing to land a jet fighter on a section of autoroute next week.

It’s the first time the exercise has taken place since the 1980s.

The increasing uncertainty in Europe has prompted military officials to heighten pilot training.

Many sections of the autoroute network across the country have been designed to be turned into emergency runways, if required.

The A1 between Avenches and Payerne in canton Vaud will be closed for a maximum of 36 hours between Tuesday and Thursday.

Traffic will be diverted along cantonal routes.
