There could be a gas shortage this winter and the head of the industry association in Switzerland says one of the main problems is the Swiss way of doing things, which doesn't work well in a crisis.
In an interview with the NZZ newspaper, André Dosé, says there’s a looming shortage this winter and prices could surge.
He says the good old-fashioned way of getting decisions backed by as many people as possible won’t work in a fast-moving situation.
The current energy strategy, which was backed by voters in 2017, isn’t taking into account the population growth and the switch to electric cars, he says.
Gas makes up 15% of this country’s energy needs - mainly for heating and cooking – and half of that comes from Russia, although Switzerland has no direct contracts with Russian suppliers.
