A study by the University of Zurich is raising concerns about the effectiveness of professional dish washers.
Most restaurants and canteens in the country will use the big machines which are quicker and more powerful than domestic appliances.
The researchers found that they leave a residue of a cleaning agent which can be harmful to the natural lining of the intestine.
The chemical can lead to allergies, diabetes, obesity and even have some mental impacts – such as depression.
The study leader, Cezmi Akdis, says its concerning many machines don’t have an operation to remove the leftover rinse aid.
