There’s a growing rebellion over canton Geneva’s plan to bring in 30 kph speed limits on large sections of roads.
The swathe of limits will cover hundreds of roads. The new rules will be brought in in stages, starting in the centre, and spreading out.
But the rules have not been discussed by the Cantonal Grand Council – and form part of a decree from the executive.
The canton argues that the limits are needed to bring down noise levels – which courts have agreed do breach federal limits.
But the Swiss People’s Party and the Liberals as well as the TCS say they will appeal against the decree and say it needs to be debated.
The first limits are due to come into force next month.
