The Swiss Migration Secretariat says the rules surrounding the ‘S’ permit being given to Ukrainian refugees will be changed so they can be revoked in some circumstances.
If refugees return to their home country for more than 15 days a quarter or if they leave Switzerland for an extended period of time they could lose the protection of the permit.
But authorities say there are exemptions.
For example, if someone needs to travel back in preparation for a final move home or if they have to take care of a sick relative.
The decision was made after the Secretariat consulted with the cantons.
