Vaud and Valais are opening public consultation on the biggest piece of the third Rhône correction, a 14-kilometre stretch through the Chablais
The project will widen the river bed from 60 to 90 metres on average, reinforce existing defences and build new dykes to protect the plain against extreme flooding.
Public access and biodiversity along the banks will also be improved.
The two cantons unveiled the plans yesterday, with the inquiry open from tomorrow until 2 November.
The total cost will be CHF 368 million, with completion expected between 2040 and 2045.
