Road deaths down, drink driving up

The latest road safety figures for Geneva have been released. They show a welcome fall in deaths on the roads- but more people are drinking and driving and the number of accidents with e-scooters are up.

In 2021, 14 died on the roads – last year it was 8. So far this year the number is 2.

The number of accidents is up – now back to pre-pandemic levels. But those that involved alcohol is up by 14% on the previous year.

E-scooters are increasingly involved in accidents – but the figures simply reflect there are more of them on the roads. The police remind users they can’t be used on sidewalks and the machines must be limited to 20 kph.
