Schools offer support to students following bar fire

School students in Geneva returned to classrooms yesterday under a heavy emotional cloud, following a deadly New Year’s Eve fire in Crans-Montana.

The blaze killed forty people, including a fourteen-year-old boy, and injured more than a hundred.

Geneva officials say several local students were seriously injured.

In response, the Department of Public Instruction brought in psychological support services across public schools and apprenticeship programs.

Teachers and counselors are encouraging students to talk, while schools also urge limited social media exposure.

A nationwide minute of silence will be observed this Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, in Crans-Montana, local officials have withdrawn the licence for a second bar owned by the same family.
