An extremely rare trial is taking place in canton Vaud.
It’s being held behind closed doors, so the victim doesn’t hear what happened to her – she’s not even in court.
Closed door trials are extremely unusual in Switzerland. The right of the people to know and understand the justice procedure is considered paramount.
Two men are accused of subjecting the woman to a daylong agonising sexual assault. The victim has very little memory of the event. But it was all videoed.
One man has been charged with attempted murder – the other as an accomplice.
The main defendant is described as a polydrug addict, and is hardly ever sober. The other man is being described as having diminished responsibility.
Prosecutors are demanding 20-year sentences.
The trial continues.
