A possible new word is entering the Swiss lexicon – Zexit.
It refers to the idea that the city of Zurich should remove itself from the canton to give it more autonomy.
The issue has been given new impetus after the recent votes where cantonal voters rejected 30 kph speed limits in the city.
The results show urban dwellers backed the idea.
Supporters of Zexit say it would be better if the canton was split into two half cantons – similar to Basel – so those living in the city will have more control over their own affairs.
