Slow drivers should be fined the same way as speeders – that’s the idea of a Swiss people’s Party parliamentarian Walter Gartmann.
He says slow drivers disrupt traffic flow and minimum speed cameras should be introduced.
Anyone driving 10 kph an hour under the limit, when it is possible to go faster, should be fined.
But the Green Party disagrees and says some choose to drive slower on the autoroute to save fuel.
Others also point out that the police can already fine someone for driving too slowly.
A woman in Zurich had to pay over CHF 400 as she was deemed to be too slow while on the outside lane on the autoroute – despite plenty of opportunities to change lane.
Others have been fined in the past for being too slow when entering the autoroute from a slip road.
