It is officially spring in Geneva.
The coming of the new season is traditionally marked by the official chestnut tree on the Promenade de la Treille in the Old Town.
Spring is said to have sprung when the tree shows its first leaf – which it did yesterday, the 10th March.
It’s a tradition that was started in 1818 – in that year spring was on the 16th March.
But the tree has changed though – the one used now is from 2016.
This year’s date is in line with the average range – from 3rd to 24th March.
