Storms are getting more intense and occurring at shorter notice. That’s the conclusion of a survey of insurers by the SonntagsBlick newspaper.
One of the country’s largest insurers, Axa, says sudden storms bring new dangers such as heavy rain causing flooded roads and inundating underground car parks.
Other companies agree. They point out the claims for storm damage have increased significantly since 2020 – especially in canton Ticino – where hail is a major factor.
But insurers do say recent government efforts on preventive infrastructure is paying off, such as flood relief tunnels and higher dams.
