A series of violent storms hit western Switzerland last night and caused local flooding and even leading to the closure of the Geneva controlled airspace last night.
Skyguide, the air traffic control network, had to shut down over Geneva as a cooling unit for its data centre broke down.
Canton Vaud was the worst hit. Forecasters say the storms were very slow moving so there was significant accumulation of water.
A possible record may have been broken. The Vaud town of L’Auberson was hit by 129mm of water in 3 hours.
There was localised flooding in Morges as the river broke its banks in some areas.
Vaud police say they had 20 reports of flooding, downed trees, landsides and impassible roads.
