A major storm yesterday afternoon around Biel in canton Bern seriously injured one person, caused thousands of francs of damage, felled trees, and led to the cancellation of an outdoor music festival.
Police say a man was hit by a tree branch and seriously hurt, at around 3pm yesterday.
The storms moved across from the Jura and headed east. At some points, winds hit hurricane strength of 140 kph.
A restaurant roof in Nidau was torn off.
The music festival in Neuchâtel was first evacuated due to fears of lightning strikes. Later the same day, festival goers were told not to return and the rest of the event was cancelled.
