Summer ski lift riders return

Swiss ski lifts had a strong start to the summer, with 24% more visitors in May and June compared to 2024.

The Swiss Ski Lift Association says stable, sunny weather in June drove the increase, especially in the Vaud and Fribourg Alps, which saw visitor numbers jump by over 50%.

Domestic passengers rose 30%, while international visitors increased 19%.

After a poor start in 2024, this marks a major rebound.

Eastern Switzerland, Valais, Graubunden, and Central Switzerland also posted solid gains. The Bernese Oberland grew by 20%, while growth in Ticino remained modest.

The trend follows a highly successful 2024/25 winter season, which saw the best visitor numbers in a decade.
