Swimming in Rhône banned - again

The Rhône River is once again off-limits to swimmers and boaters downstream of the Sous-Terre bridge, following a second oil spill in less than a week.

The incident occurred at the same location as Tuesday's leak - just upstream of the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices.

This time, pollution was again caused by a hydraulic hose on a construction machine, which was severed underwater.

Around 70 litres of biodegradable oil entered the river. The swimming ban from Tuesday’s leak had only been lifted on Wednesday morning. Authorities are now closely monitoring the situation.
