The new mayor of Como – the Italian border town – is keeping a campaign pledge to crackdown on Swiss registered cars that refuse to pay for parking.
Alessandro Rapinese – who ran for mayor as an independent – says the town loses EUR 300,000 every year on unpaid parking fees and fines from Swiss cars.
He promised while campaigning he would get a tow truck specifically for Swiss registered vehicles.
He’s followed through on his promise only two weeks after being elected and now Swiss cars are not being ticketed, but towed.
Rapinese points out he’s in Ticino a lot – and he always pays for parking.
