The Jamaican-born sprinter Alex Wilson, who is registered to compete for Switzerland in the men’s 100m and 200m events in Tokyo, has had a provisional ban for an anti-doping violation, which had been suspended by Swiss Olympic, reinstated with immediate effect.
In March this year, Wilson tested positive for the banned steroid trenbolone.
The sprinter said that he had unknowingly ingested the steroid after eating contaminated meat in the US. He was banned by Swiss Olympic in April, a ban that was lifted at the start of July. However, the global governing body World Athletics has now re-imposed the ban.
Swiss Olympic says that, while enquiries are underway, Wilson is presumed innocent of the doping charge.
Wilson has said that the decision to reinstate his ban is ‘unfair’.
