Swiss temperatures are higher

Switzerland is warming fast, and humans are to blame.

That’s according to MeteoSwiss, which says the country’s average annual temperature has risen by 2.6 degrees since 1971.

The increase in extreme heat is striking.

The hottest day of the year is now, on average, 3.4 degrees warmer than five decades ago.

In Basel, for example, peak temperatures have jumped from 32.2°C to nearly 36°C.

Even winters are milder – the coldest days are now 2.8 degrees warmer than in 1971.

MeteoSwiss says the data clearly shows the impact of man-made climate change.
