The heatwave is set to continue until tomorrow, with Geneva expected to reach 36 today, before temperatures ease back below 30 later this week - bringing highs back towards seasonal norms.
But MétéoSuisse warns another spell of extreme heat could arrive before the end of this month.
The prolonged hot, dry weather has also produced the fewest lightning strikes since 2015, as persistent high pressure blocks Atlantic storm systems.
It’s also cut rainfall which is running at about 60% less than expected.
