Tourists are returning to Geneva. Figures from the Cantonal Statistics Office are being described as exceptional.
In the first six months of this year overnight stays rose by more than 26% to 1.6 million – a new record.
Hotels say they had a very strong June and July with visitors from the Middle East and the United States particularly numerous.
The head of Geneva tourism, Adrien Genier, told the Tribune de Genève that this year’s figures have beaten those from just before covid – which were already very strong.
He also points out that internal tourism was very strong. The number of visitors to Geneva from German speaking regions of the country made up 27% of visitors, up 10% from before covid.
