Nearly 600 passengers had to change trains in the middle of the Gotthard tunnel last night.
The train broke down in the tunnel and was stuck for two hours before it was decided to lead passengers along the side of the tunnel to a new train.
Swiss Federal Railways say the passengers were never in danger.
Services returned to normal at around 9.30pm. An investigation into the breakdown is now underway.
