Tram over Mont-Blanc Bridge idea

An idea to lay tram tracks across the Mont Blanc bridge is gaining ground.

Two Geneva politicians have tabled a motion that the lines should be built at the same time the bridge is undergoing renovation.

The two motions have been tabled in the City of Geneva council and the cantonal Grand Council simultaneously.

The idea has been turned down in the past, due to the cost.

But since the rejection of a pedestrian bridge by voters last year, many see trams along the bridge as another way to increase mobility.

The bridge’s structure has to be maintained and work is scheduled to start in 2030.

The proposals suggest put in the tram lines during the renovation – it will reduce costs and the time the bridge will have to restricted to traffic.
