An investigation into a truck explosion in neighbouring France says the driver was a hero.
The truck was carrying liquified propane in January 2023 near the town of Fillinges in Haute Savoie – about 10 km from the Geneva border.
The driver noticed a fire had started in the front of the vehicle – instead of stopping right away in an inhabited area, he continued to drive to a more isolated spot and then called emergency services, accurately explaining to them his cargo and the potential danger.
The propane did explode – damaging some houses nearby. But the Accident Investigation Bureau says the outcome could have been much worse if the driver hadn’t taken action.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
