It’s thought likely the government will announce the end to most of the Covid measures this week.
It’s being called a ‘turbo’ reopening. It will see the lifting of the need to show a health pass and no more limits on private meetings.
The only requirement to remain is likely the need to wear a mask on public transport, as well as in medical facilities and care homes.
It’s believed the government feels it can make the change after even the best-case scenarios predicted by the Federal Task Force proved to be overly pessimistic, due to the less severe Omicron variant.
The task force is admitting they got it wrong – “fortunately”, says the force’s head, Tanja Stadler.
