Bern cantonal police launched two major search operations over the weekend – both were unsuccessful.
A father and a small child are missing after they fell into the Giessbach Falls near Brienz. Police say the missing man had left the path was standing close to the falls when he fell.
Witnesses say the man’s wife was distraught. She had stayed behind with their other child.
Another search was triggered when a woman fell into the Iffigbach Falls near Lenk. She was hiking with a friend.
Both searches involved foot patrols, boats and helicopters – but failed to find the missing people.
Family and friends have been offered professional care by a specialised unit from canton Bern.
