Uber starts teen service

The ride hailing firm Uber has launched a service specifically designed for teens – those over 13.

Up till now, Uber could only be used by adults.

The service is only available in Geneva and Lausanne for the time being.

There are several safeguards. The parents create an account for their child, linked to their credit card.

When the teenager orders a car, the parent is informed and is able to track its progress and can contact the driver.

Uber will also contact the driver if the car is stationary for an extended period.

The firm also stresses all the drivers associated with the teen service have passed the necessary federal and cantonal tests.
