UDC candidate screening underway

The UDC is putting its eight candidates to succeed Guy Parmelin through a job-interview-style screening

Over the next three weeks, each contender will be auditioned individually by a six-member commission of former party presidents and parliamentary leaders.

Family background, career history, criminal record and even a letter of motivation will all go under the microscope.

The commission can eliminate anyone judged incompatible with federal office.

Several candidates have already stopped giving public interviews.

The findings will shape the final UDC ticket for Switzerland's largest party.
