Following crowd trouble after last weekend’s football match between Winterthur and Servette authorities have clamped down on so called ‘Ultra-Supporters.’
Last Saturday Servette beat Winterthur away in a Swiss Cup game. After Servette won 1-0, crowds invaded the pitch and one was spotted throwing a flare towards a family section in the stand.
On Saturday, Servette are due to meet Winterthur again - this time a Super League playoff match – at the Stade de Genève.
Police have ordered the closure of the North Stand at the stadium on Saturday, which is normally where hard core supporters gather.
In a press release, Servette FC say they have to submit to the decision and believe it’s an unfair sanction as the overwhelming majority of supporters have behaved in an exemplary manner.
