New U.S. tariffs on Swiss imports have officially taken effect. But they maybe short lived.
As of Wednesday, many Swiss goods entering the United States are now subject to a 15-percent tariff, down from 39 percent, retroactive to mid-November.
While Switzerland welcomes the reduction, it’s not completely over.
The Trump administration has warned tariffs could rise again if a broader trade deal is not finalized by early 2026 and is also pressuring Swiss pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices in the U.S.
Swiss negotiators now have three months to reach a binding agreement.
