There are more sightings of the Nosferatu spider in Switzerland.
Normally a native of South Africa, the poisonous spider is beginning to establish itself in Europe. It’s now known to inhabit southern Germany and London – and it’s spreading.
It’s been spotted in cantons Aargau, Bern and Zurich.
While the bite is not deadly, it can be painful – likened to a wasp sting.
If spotted, experts say it’s unlikely to bite a human unless threatened. Use a glass and some paper to remove it from your home.
It prefers warm weather and its likely the trend of warmer summers is allowing it to move further afield. It prefers cities and will seek warmth in homes over the winter.
