In the canton of Vaud, Pascal Broulis of the Liberal Party was elected to the senate, where he will form a team with Pierre-Yves Maillard of the Social Democrats.
Broulis was elected in the second round of the federal elections, where he was the favorite against ecologist Raphaël Mahaim.
Broulis and Maillard will now represent Vaud in the Upper House in Bern, but it’s not the first time they’ve worked together in the canton’s interest. They previously formed a duo in the cantonal government, where their ability to find ways to balance fiscal and social policy has been widely praised.
