Voting day just 2 weeks away

Geneva heads to the polls on 27 September to decide whether it should be easier for tenants to buy the flat they rent

The right-wing majority in the cantonal parliament pushed through a loosening of the LDTR — Genevas demolition and renovation law — arguing it has paralysed the property market.

The Asloca tenants' association and the left launched a referendum, warning it will bring back the "congé-vente", where landlords evict renters to sell.

The vote pits two rival visions of Geneva's tight housing market against each other, which matters directly to those who rent in the canton.
