Warmer than average end to the month

Switzerland is heading into a summery final week of September, with temperatures forecast to climb into the late-20s this week

Basel could hit 28C, Geneva 26C and Zurich 25C, according to Meteo Suisse, with the warm spell expected to last until at least Thursday.

The unusual heat comes on top of an exceptionally dry month — the country is now missing about three months of rainfall, and September could rank among the ten driest on record.

The National Drought Platform warns that conditions north of the Alps and in Valais are still worsening.
