Bern police were forced to use water cannon, rubber bullets and batons on an unauthorized demonstration on Saturday.
Around 2,000 were calling for an end to the war in Gaza. The crowd formed outside the main train station in the centre of the city and then marched to the Bundesplatz outside the federal parliament building.
They tried to cross the Kirchenfeld Bridge - when leads to an area of the city where there are several country embassies - including the Israeli embassy. But police stopped them.
Witnesses told the press the confrontation with the police was extremely violent.
The crowd was mixed, say reports, with obviously determined protestors - but also with families and children, who were also caught up in the tear gassings.
