Whooping cough alert

In Geneva, cantonal health services are warning about the spread of whooping cough in schools.

Since the beginning of the year around 60 schools have been affected. Exact numbers are unknown as it is not a notifiable illness, except in those under 6 months old.

While there are outbreaks every year, this year is seeing a marked increase. The Cantonal Physician Service says the same is true across Europe.

Doctors say vaccination – including the booster shot - is vital. Not just for children, but also pregnant women and those in regular contact with children.
