Wide variation in property valuations

Swiss homeowners are being warned that the same property can be valued by two different brokers with a gap of up to CHF 180,000

A study of more than 260 transactions highlights a serious lack of transparency on the Swiss property market.

Unlike the United States, where every property transaction is public, Switzerland has no open data on sales, and Geneva's historic registry was taken offline in 2023.

For sellers, an under-valued home sells at a loss; an over-valued one simply sits on the market.

The call now is for Switzerland to move to full open data on property sales.
