Winter tyres compulsory in France from Saturday

From Saturday, winter tyres are compulsory in the neighbouring French departments.

The law applies to all vehicles, irrespective of country of registration.

Tyres now have to be marked with the three-peaked mountain symbol – the simple M+S stamp is no longer valid.

The tyres have to be on all wheels – not just the drive wheels.

If you don’t have winter tyres, then you should be carrying snow chains.

Not having the right tyres means a EUR 135 fine and the car could be impounded until new tyres are fitted.
