Last week, a wolf attack devastated a flock of sheep in the remote Fex Valley in the Engadine.
Within a single day, 37 animals were killed and 14 others injured, forcing around 700 sheep to leave their alpine pasture early.
The municipality of Sils announced the early end of the grazing season, and says it’s a painful blow for farmers.
According to the Graubünden Hunting and Fishing Office, 11 sheep were killed by bites and 26 had to be euthanized due to injuries.
Despite herd protection measures, the attack could not be prevented. Authorities have now issued a 60-day hunting permit to regulate the wolf in the region.
