More than 2,000 marched in Geneva on Saturday in support of International Women’s Day, but a survey says Switzerland is one of the worst countries in the OECD for women’s rights.
Marchers gathered near the Mont-Blanc Bridge, with speeches denouncing the rise of fascism and masculinism – which speakers say are linked.
But a survey by the Economist newspaper ranks this country 26th out of 29 OECD countries for women’s rights. The only ones worse were South Korea, Turkey and Japan.
The survey does show that there are plenty of women in the workplace, but most of the posts are part time. So, pay – and therefore pensions – are lower for women.
But Switzerland does score above the average with female company directors and members of parliament.
