Work to modernize Lausanne train station will finally get underway next month.
The Federal Office of Transport halted work around two years ago – unhappy at the plans put forward by Swiss Federal Railways.
But now the go ahead has been given to excavate a huge underground space beneath the station – the SBB says it will be the size of an underground cathedral.
The new space will allow for easy connections between the trains, metro, cars and buses.
Digging will start in May – and will last nine years. And that’s just the first stage of the renovation.
