Around 250 students in Geneva debated the question on the voting age – and if it should be lowered to 16.
The students questioned a panel of politicians on the stage of the Nouvelle Comédie in the city.
At the end of the debate – the students voted if they believe 16-year-olds should get the vote. While they said yes, it was narrow. 53% agreed with the lower age.
In Switzerland, only canton Glarus allows 16-year-olds to vote. But other cantons are beginning to have the debate. Supporters say it will help younger people to become more politically engaged.
