Dog owners, beware, your pet’s summer swim could lead to a beaver brawl.
That’s exactly what happened near Zurich, when Naomi’s Labradoodle, Lili, was attacked in the Glatt River.
While cooling off in the water, the 7-year-old dog was suddenly ambushed by a beaver speeding in from the opposite bank.
Naomi jumped in fully clothed to save her dog. Lili was seriously injured, bleeding from the paw, and had to spend two days in a vet clinic.
Naomi says Lili hadn’t provoked the beaver at all, and she’s still shaken by the animal’s aggression.
An expert from the cantonal beaver service in Zurich says beavers will defend their territory, especially during breeding season.
Federal authorities are discussing a culling of the animals due to the damage they can cause.
