In the eternal battle between sleepy teenagers and early school bells, the left-wing majority on the Zurich City Council has struck a blow for the snooze button.
No lessons can start before 8am – currently some start as early as 7.30.
By 71 votes to 48, they approved later school starts — but don’t set your alarms yet.
A transition period of up to four years means today’s students may already be sipping coffee and nursing a hangover at university before the change kicks in.
