New rules passed by the City of Zurich mean all those who work for the city will have to reveal any relationships they may have with other workers.
The aim is to avoid a conflict of interests.
Workers will have to report if they are related to, or married to a colleague. Even couples who don’t live together will have to declare their status. But the regulations do exempt ‘close friendships’.
Staff associations are questioning how to define a ‘close friendship’ or a relationship.
The rules are on the back of a report in 2018 that criticised relatives, in-laws and partners working together creates opportunities for nepotism.
