In Zurich a boycott against the Swiss chip maker Zweifel is gathering pace as restaurant chains say they’ll no longer stock them.
The argument against the brand has been rumbling for years – but seems to have picked up speed.
It’s being led by fans of the two main football clubs, FC Zurich and Grasshoppers. They’re angry the board of the food manufacturer is objecting to a new stadium which will house the two clubs. The project has been approved by voters twice.
Now a major restaurant chain with several businesses in Zurich and Sankt Gallen says they will stop selling Zweifel chips. The chain’s owner, Christian Kramer, says the stadium is needed for sport and young people.
Last summer, Urs Zweifel – the founder’s nephew, who’s on the board, said the objection is a personal decision by some board members.
