A/C Sales Up

Sales of air conditioners are surging in Switzerland as households struggle through successive heatwaves

Retailer Interdiscount reported a 150% jump last year, and online seller Galaxus more than tripled it's air conditioning sales year on year. Only around 5% of Swiss homes have fixed air conditioning, against 20% across the EU and the US. Cantonal rules make installation difficult, for example in Geneva any applicant must prove that temperatures exceed 26.5 degrees for more than 400 hours a year before permission is granted
